This note came from Maureen on 1/26/01
As you can see by our email addresses, two
Lane graduates live together here in Claremont, Virginia. Bob Alhouse (June '53 graduate) and Maureen
Lewis (June '53 graduate) married in November 1957. After 31 years
of moving around with Bob's military career we ended up retired in Virginia. We
are
very interested in a 2003 reunion and you may certainly show our address to
the group and post our names and address on the web.
We are anxious to hear from you in the future
about the big event.
Thanks,
Maureen
(Lewis) Alhouse

Here's a picture
of us after our hot air balloon ride in Arizona 7 Jan 2001.
Bob and I did not date in high school. We knew each
other from groups sitting around tables at the B.C. We also sat near each
other in Mr. Mannheimer's Solid Geometry class. He went off to Georgia
Tech and I attended Queens College. During our first year in college my
girlfriends and I felt the usual let down of being lowly freshmen after a
very active and social senior year in high school. We decided to write to
some of our old classmates to try to get together when we were all home
for Christmas break. I selected Bob and we started dating that Christmas
and for the next four years
November 1957 we married after I had graduated and was
teaching school in East Meadow. Then four months later Bob received
greetings from his Uncle Sam. This began our 31 year military
odyssey. We spent many years moving around the U.S., and lived in Germany
from 1959 -1962, in Ethiopia from 1967-1969, and Korea from
1981-1984. In between Bob spent two tours in Viet Nam, while I
stayed with the three kids and taught school. By the end of the 31
year career, Bob had progressed from drafted private to the rank of COL
and acquired a B.S. and M.S. degree. Our last tour was at Ft. Lee,
VA so we ended up in a 125 year old house overlooking the James River.
Here we entertain our six grandchildren and travel (both as often as
we can). It's been a GREAT LIFE!! Who would have thought it 50
years ago.
