| Educated at Brooklyn college, where he earned a BA in philosophy, Stuart
W. Mirsky gave up a prospective writing career early on in favor of a
career in the civil service in order to support and raise his family...and
because he found it so daunting to get his material accepted by the
publishing world. Currently a mid-level government functionary in a major
North American city, he traveled abroad in his youth, both during and
after college (Europe, the Middle East and Africa), and studied the
Oriental martial arts, including Shotokan, Tae Kwon Do and Yun Mu Kwan
karate, earning a second degree black belt in this last style in 1975. He
has written articles for various periodicals, including a national
magazine and an opinion column for a local newspaper (now defunct). He has
also managed several organizations in municipal government and was
instrumental in one city agency winning a 1992 Ford Foundation
"Innovations in State & Local Governments" award. He has
three children (two daughters and a son) by his lovely wife Brenda who is,
herself, a poet and a teacher. Stuart says he'll write another book if
this one sells -- otherwise it's back to the civil service grind for him. |
